As a recognized vein doctor, Dr Cheng Shin Chuen has received several awards including Service Excellence from Tan Tock Seng and the NTU-NHG Seed Innovation Grant, a testament not only to his experience as a physician but also to his dedication to his profession. Education

Graduating with honours from the University of New South Wales, Australia, in 1998, Dr Cheng completed his training in General Surgery in Singapore by 2006. To further hone his expertise, Dr Cheng went on to serve as a Senior Clinical Fellow in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney, Australia, in 2007.

Career

Dr Cheng has held prestigious roles, including Head of Vascular and Endovascular Services at Tan Tock Seng Hospital and consultant surgeon positions at Alexandra Hospital and Changi General Hospital. He also served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. His sub-specialty interests lie in minimally invasive endovascular interventions for aortic, peripheral arterial, and venous diseases.

Achievements

Dr Cheng has a broad range of expertise, performing procedures such as Clarivein, endovenous ablation of varicose veins, peripheral arterial angioplasty, and aortic stenting. He also provides diabetic foot management, deep vein thrombosis treatment, renal nerve denervation, laparoscopic hernia repair, laparoscopic gallbladder surgery, gastroscopy, and colonoscopy. As one of the few vascular surgeons in Singapore trained in vascular ultrasound, Dr Cheng offers a comprehensive one-stop service from diagnosis to personalised treatment.

Known for his expertise in angioplasty—a procedure to restore blood circulation through the infusion of a tube with a tiny balloon—Dr Cheng also specialises in endovascular stenting for aneurysm patients. As the Regional Proctor (SEA) of Medtronic Endovascular, he performs complex procedures to prevent aneurysms from swelling or rupturing. His commitment to diabetes management focuses on preventing amputations in patients with leg ulcers or gangrene.

Beyond his clinical practice, Dr Cheng has authored numerous articles and abstracts in peer-reviewed journals and has presented at international symposiums in Taiwan, Seoul, and Tokyo.
